Why you're on 192.com

192.com publishes the open register (the "edited" electoral roll), along with phone directory and Companies House records. It says it has only been able to publish the open register since 2003, and that the last full register it holds is from 2002. [source: 192.com help] [source: 192.com]

Step-by-step (free)

  1. Search 192.com for your name and write down every address and postcode it shows for you.
  2. Open the removal request form ↗. Enter your first name (no middle names), surname and postcode, plus an email address you control. You can only remove yourself or your immediate family. You can add up to five other people at the same address.
  3. Click the confirmation link in the email. Nothing happens until you do.
  4. Repeat for each previous address.
  5. Don't know the full postcode? Email [email protected] with everything you know about the record.
  6. Prefer post? Download the PDF form from 192.com's help page and post it.

192.com says removals are "usually effected within 24 hours" and normally within 48 hours. It uses a suppression file, so future data from its suppliers should also be hidden. [source: 192.com removal form]

Stop it coming back: opt out of the open register

The open register can be sold to anyone, including online directory firms. Opting out doesn't affect your right to vote. Use the register to vote service ↗ or contact your local electoral registration office (in Northern Ireland, the EONI). [source: GOV.UK] [source: ICO]

If it doesn't work: UK GDPR erasure request

If your details are still there after a few days, or 192.com refuses, send a written erasure request to its data protection contact, quoting the URLs of your listings. Use our free template. The organisation normally has one calendar month to respond and can't usually charge. If you're still unhappy, complain to 192.com first, then to the ICO ↗. [source: ICO]

192.com is one of many UK people-search sites. See our full guide to removing your personal details for the open register, junk mail, TPS and other data brokers.
